After their last number one record the band took themselves off to the States once more to play a few more dates and do the rounds of radio and tv shows spreading the word. It was on one of these TV shows in Fresno that Jane and her forties trip boots first came to notice.
Gudbuy T Jane was eventually to become the band's biggest seller worldwide but was kept off the top slot in the UK charts by Chuck Berry's dire novelty record, 'My ding a ling' (although Holder maintains that HE can be heard in the audience as he was at the show when the track was recorded) however the record spent a then record 13 weeks in the charts and kept the fans happy as their 1972 LP 'Slayed?' was released shortly afterwards in time for the christmas market rush.
'Jane' was quickly added to the live shows and featured more or less as part of their stage set until they stopped touring in 84'
The B side was the magnificent 'I won't let it appen agen' where Lea's bass playing is exceptional, and was another in a long line of classy accomplished B sides that the band found the time to come up with in this very fruitful period of their career.
