Slade were by now the biggest band in the land, and with the release of 'Cum On Feel The Noize' they achieved what no other band since the Beatles had done and that was to have a single crash into the charts at the number one position.
The idea for the song title came from a gig in Liverpool the previous year where Holder had said that the noise from the audience was so huge it could be felt by the band on stage.
Cum on feel the noize was an instant anthem and is to date the Slade track most covered by other artists, most notably by US band Quiet Riot a decade later.
This was Slade at their very best, they could do no wrong, with their images adorning just about every teen bedroom in the country, sell out tours and awards galore coming thick and fast, they were untouchable and ruled the roost. A greatest hits Lp 'Sladest' quickly followed and once again they were being courted by the US industry. Surely they would break there soon.
'Noize' remained in the set until the end, and was often played as the first of their pre planned 'encores' to close the shows.
The B side was a deliciously worded attack on the band's detractors in the press, 'I'm Me, I'm now, and thats orl' saw a real lyric from the band that was spat out with venom and bile by Holder's vocals and the sound was the nearest thing to sleaze that Slade had ever managed........excellent stuff.
