Just as soon as the 'noize' had died down Slade repeated the feat of entering the chart at the number one position with 'Skweeze Me Pleeze Me'. This was never one of my favourites but in 1973 could have released any old shit and it would have still been a huge hit such was the popularity of the band.
From the cover of every teen mag in the land the members of Slade could be seen leering out at their record buying public
and it was around this time that the band played Earls Court in London, the then highlight of their career and a storming success.
A few days after the event drummer Don Powell lay critically ill having suffered severe head injuries in a road accident in which his then fiance was killed. The nation held it's collective breath as slowly Powell recovered.
All gig's were cancelled except in Douglas on the Isle Of Man where the band took to the stage for two gigs with Jim Lea's brother Frank the plumber taking the drum role (sic).
The B side was something that no one at the time expected from Slade, 'Kill em at the hot club tonite' was an affectionate take on the kit kat klub in Paris and featured Jimmy Lea on the fiddle in unadulterated 'Omage to maestro Grapelli.......sublime.
