Going to a Slade gig can take more nerve than most fans bargain for as it's not unusual for Messrs Holder and Co. to issue loud threats to any members of the audience who don't appear to be enjoying themselves to the hilt. Perhaps it's the wild aggression of the group's personalities finding its way into their music that has given them the jet propelled success from which they themselves are still reeling. However, it hasn't all been roses by any means. For four long years Slade trudged the club and pub circuits unloading a skinhead "Reggae" sound on a minority public not really capable of lifting them into the charts. Fortunately time passed and the group matured so that at last justice was done and talent rewarded ... The ex "bovver boys" of pop had finally been accepted. In a time when the big beat had been virtually banished from the charts their throbbing, gutsy sound was an echo from a magnificent past and fell on a million ears eager for the return of rock 'n' roll. Steered to stardom by ex "Animal" guitarist Chas. Chandler, Noddy Holder and the boys haven't looked back since they put the beat bashing, vintage Little Richard rocker "Get Down and Get With It" on disc just over a year ago. They followed this with their own infectious composition "Coz I Luv You" and are busily and noisily consolidating their supreme position with their latest top ten stormer "Look Wot You Dun".
