Mama Weer All Crazee Now - 1972 SIE composite video

Crazee, Crazee, Crazee~ 1972

slade noddy holder 1972After years of hard work, Slade were in 1972 an 'overnight sensation' and beginning to enjoy the fruits of their labours as hit after hit were relentlessly rolled out. The writing talents of Messrs Lea & Holder brought the band a further four hit singles including two more chart toppers.

'Look Wot You Dun', & Take Me bak 'Ome' were solid hits without really gripping the record buying public by the bollocks. 'Mama Weer All Crazee Now' was to change everything about the band. The opening crashing guitar intro signalled a subtle change of direction from the band. they had found their 'sound'.

Mama Weer All Crazee Now went straight into the charts at the number two position. a nailed on certainty to make that extra move upwards the following week which it duly did, bringing the band their third chart topping single.

By this time their live LP 'Slade Alive' had been an almost constant in the top ten LP' charts and began to gain it's cult status still enjoyed today.

The band also made various trips abroad during the year as those in Belgium, Spain, Finland, Nederlands, Germany and the good old U S of A were given a close up look at this new phenominal group from the UK.

With their chart success now seemingly assured the band stepped into the studio to knock up their first proper studio LP to give us 'Slayed?' with its iconic sleeve 'salute' being copied around the world as gullible teenagers wandered around wanting to be Dave, Don, Nod or Jim.

Slayed?, was released on December 1st 1972, not a month earlier as Wikipedia and those sites that cull their information from there would have you believe, became the bands first number one album., but not this year. The band had wanted to hold the number one positions in both single and album charts and were thwarted in the singles chart by Chuck Berry's dire novelty record 'My Ding A Ling', which kept the bands fourth hit single of the year 'Gudbuy T' Jane' at number 2...The LP floundered in the top five and the band ended the year without achieving their desired goal.....

still, there was always next year.......................
